Anniversary Party – What to Wear

August 6, 2013

What do you wear to host a dinner party?  Here are some of my rules for Party Dressing 101…

Tulle Skirt1. Be comfortable – Now I’m not the queen of comfort… I will wear 5 inch heels to work if it makes my outfit look better, but when you are hosting event, you want to be focused on your guests and everything running smoothly… not futzing with your outfit.  I threw on my favorite tee and some sandals to make sure I could be on “party duty.”

J.Crew Necklace2. Accessorize! Not too much, but a sparkley necklace, or fun earrings make for a festive touch (just make sure nothing will hinder your ability to serve and help out – ie. a really long necklace).  Also don’t forget to clean your jewelry before the event!

30th Anniversary Party 3023. Wear something fun! I went a little obvious, but nothing gets everyone (including myself) in a fun mood like a tulle skirt (ok it’s basically a tutu)! But whether it’s your favorite charm bracelet, a flower in your hair or some fun nail polish, everyone loves a good conversation starter!

Tory Burch Sandals4. Comfortable footwear is a must! Make sure to take in consideration the location (ie. lawn, sand, cement, etc.) and plan your footwear accordingly!

Make sure to set some time aside to get ready during the day… a party will always get off on the right foot when you’re feeling your best!

30th Anniversary Party

August 5, 2013

My parents will be celebrating their 30th Anniversary this week, so we thought what better way to mark this major milestone than with a party?! My sisters and I have been working on this for quite a while…  so I wanted to share it with you all!

Throughout the week I’ll be highlighting some of our favorite parts of the planning process – what to wear, what to serve, details not to miss! But today I wanted to focus on food and the menu… and better yet a great new company for those of you who live in the Bay Area or LA – Kitchit!  The company provides private chefs that can accommodate any event type – anything from a 5 course menu for 2, to a causal family style feast for 30.  Another feature I found really cool is you can split the bill online, so you can book as a group!

We were lucky enough to have Chef Anne help us out – her food is amazing, she’s super nice/professional/fun/accommodating and we definitely are looking forward to hosting another event that she can help us with!  Here is her fabulous family-style menu for us (my mom is gluten-free, she created a menu that would reflect that… and make my dad happy at the same time!):

Heirloom Tomatoes, Burrata & Basil with Cornbread Croutons

Arugula Salad with Grilled Peaches, Marcona Almonds, Ricotta Salata and Shallot Vinaigrette

Tuscan Dry-Rubbed Chicken with Chimichurri

Summer Fruit Shortcakes with Whipped Creme Fraiche

30th Anniversary Party 210Recapping the event today, my sisters and I couldn’t have been happier with the party – from great wine and food, to some memorable toasts and stories, and finishing with Fireball and a dance party, it definitely was one for the books… looking forward to the 50th anniversary party! Love you Mom and Dad!

I am not a big DIYer… but when it comes to jewelry I sometimes make an exception.  I used to be big into making my own jewelry in high school, but once I started college, I outgrew the hobby.  So when I found my old jewelry/beading containers a couple weeks ago, I was excited to get back in the jewelry making game!  I made a delicate beaded ombre necklace to match the Maya Brenner necklace my hubby got me with my new initials awhile back.  Since then, I’ve caught the bug!  I came across a gorgeous pendant at the bead store for and you can only imagine my surprise when I was surfing the Calypso St. Barth summer sale and saw this bracelet available for $70!

Materials: Center Bead, Hemp Cord

304

Step 1: Thread the cord through the bead.

315

Step 2: Take the right side string (we’ll call it String 1)  and place it under the left side (we’ll call this String 2) – make a backwards 4.

318

Step 3: Take the end of the String 1 and loop it through the hole you’ve made.

323

Step 4: Tighten the string to create a knot.

324

Step 5: Repeat Steps 1-4 until bracelet is the desired length.

333

Step 6: Repeat on both sides to complete your bracelet.

Enjoy the perfect summer accessory and the fact you’ll be saving $65!

Thai Turkey Burger

July 31, 2013

Thai Turkey BurgerI’m always looking for fun spin on burgers, so when I came across this recipe for a Thai Chicken Burger, I knew this would be the perfect treat to make for a family pool day!

Mango Salsa

I couldn’t find ground chicken, so I subbed ground turkey which tasted just as good!

Make extra salsa if you can… it’s THAT good!
