Anyone who has dined with my husband and I, will never know what I am going to order and will ALWAYS know what J will order.  In honor of the soon to be birthday boy, I am sharing his favorite (and only) cocktail – the vodka press.  This was my first ever “Fun Drink Friday” post, but in honor of “Fall Back Friday” I thought I’d update the pictures (sans flash… ouff) and give everyone a reminder of this amazingly refreshing drink.

This cocktail is also great on its own (without cucumber) or try subbing different fruit in place of the cucumber.  Our favorites? Blueberries, strawberries or peaches… but it’s really hard to go wrong!

PS We’ve yet to find someone who doesn’t like this drink… vodka lover or not…. so definitely try it if you haven’t (and your 21+ of course!)

My girlfriend Kelsey introduced me to the amazing Elsie Green studio and all of their amazing goodies.  Elsie Green is a family run company that curates gorgeous, sustainable finds from all over the globe. Hand woven totes from Marakkech? Vintage champagne coupes from a cafe in France? Vintage kanthas made from Indian saris? Look no further.

Each and every piece tells a story, and my favorite part (aside from their desire to work towards a desirable home, and their one of kind inventory) is their amazing partnership with 1% for the Plant – who doesn’t like to do some good and give back will shopping!?

IMG_4558

I am so excited for the opportunity to partner with Elsie Green… I love to shop & eat locally, and their company represents that in the most beautiful way possible!  But don’t worry… I won’t keep the Elsie Green goodness all to myself… because they have very generously donated a gorgeous set of Moroccan tea glasses to one of my lucky readers!!!  Just enter the contest at the end of this post… we will announce a winner next week!

Berry Mint Cooler

June 20, 2014

IMG_1894

I had some extra raspberries, strawberries and blueberries that I wasn’t going to be able to consume in time, so I covered them in vodka and let sit in the fridge for a few days.  After straining them I was left with the most gorgeously pink vodka and couldn’t wait to put together a refreshing poolside cocktail!

I received some rhubarb in my Farm Fresh to You box (use code: WHIT1117 for $10 off!) and figured what better way to use it then in a fun seasonal cocktail?

Chopped Rhubarb

First I created a Rhubarb Simple Syrup…

  • 3-4 stalks of rhubarb, chopped
  • 1/4 honey
  • 1/2 water
  1. Bring ingredients to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Once it comes to a boil, reduce to a simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Let cool for a bit and strain through a fine mesh sieve.
  4. Store in the fridge until ready to use!

Now onto the cocktail…

Rhubarb Sour

  • 2 oz vodka or gin
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 – 1 1/2 oz Rhubarb Simple Syrup (adjust depending to sweetness preference)
  • Sprite/Club Soda/Lemon flavored Sparkling Water
  1. Mix alcohol, lemon juice and simple syrup into an ice filled cocktail shaker.
  2. Shake for a good 30 seconds, until shaker is frosty.
  3. Strain into an ice filled tumblr and top with soda.

The “See Ya Later”

May 30, 2014

IMG_1248

I whipped up this little number with some leftover grapefruits from my Farm Fresh to You box (use code WHIT1117 for $10 off!) and was pleasantly surprised by the positive feedback! This turned into the drink of choice for Memorial Day Weekend… we highly recommend it for your next pool day!

“See Ya Later” Grapefruit Cocktail

  • Juice of 2 Grapefruits
  • Juice of 2 Limes
  • 2 cups Vodka
  • 1/2 cup Elderflower Liqueur (St. Germain)
  • Club Soda (optional)

This recipe doesn’t get any easier… Simply mix all of the above ingredients (except the club soda) and serve over ice.  Top with club soda if you don’t like your drinks as strong… but be careful… this one sneaks up on you!
