Blackberry Swizzle

February 22, 2013

A couple of years ago J and I went to a CUESA event at the Ferry Building… tons of great food, music and most importantly (for Fun Drink Friday that is…) tons of great drinks.  We were able to sample many fabulous concoctions but our favorite was hands down – Square One Vodka’s Blackberry Swizzle.

For J and I to wholeheartedly agree on a cocktail is rare… so this is sure to be a crowd pleaser!

Blackberry Swizzle

1.5 oz of Square One Basil (hard to find, but BevMo does carry it… it’s worth the search!)

4 fresh blackberries

1/2 oz of fresh lemon juice

1/2 oz of agave nectar

Ginger beer

Garnish: blackberries, basil, etc.

Muddle the berries then add remaining ingredients (except ginger beer) and shake with ice. Strain into a glass filled with ice and top with ginger beer. Stir and garnish!

Red Rover

February 15, 2013

When I made that Blood Orange Salad a couple weeks ago, I was blown away that blood oranges could be bought pretty much anywhere this time of the year… and since that moment I’ve been eating them as much as possible – and drinking them is no exception!

Here is a fun seasonal cocktail that I’m sure you’ll enjoy!

2. Add ginger ale and stir to combine

3. Pour into a ice filled glass and garnish with fresh ginger

Mai Tai-pe of Drink

February 8, 2013

I am finding great pleasure in making up titles that are as corny as possible.  Anyway… with Hawaii on the brain, what better way to get into an Aloha mindset than a Mai Tai!?

But not just any Mai Tai – a copycat version of Li Po’s Chinese Mai Tai in San Francisco (as seen on Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations).

Here it goes…

Whaler’s Dark Rum

Castillo Light Rum

Bacardi 151 Rum

Chinese Liqueur (Rose flavored)

Pineapple Juice

Mix to taste and drink up – consume with caution 🙂

Aloha!

Fun Drink Friday

February 1, 2013

I’m proud to welcome my home’s resident bartender – Jeremy Beaver!

Anyone who has come to our home has most likely tried one of his famous concoctions and we wanted LiL to showcase his infamous Cucumber Press recipe.

What you Need:

  • Cucumber Slices
  • Vodka
  • Club Soda
  • Sprite

What you Do:

  • Muddle cucumber in a shaker
  • Add 2 ounces of premium vodka (we’re fans of Joss or Grey Goose)
  • Top with 4 ounces of club soda
  • Finish with a splash of sprite
  • Use a strainer to pour into a highball glass filled with crushed ice
  • Garnish with a cucumber… enjoy

Tip: This is a great Super Bowl drink recipe… we recommend using a mandolin to pre-slice your cucumbers! Super refreshing and it’s not super filling so you’ll have room for all of those fun football snacks!

Mo-need-o Drink

January 27, 2013

Mo-need-o… Mojito… Get it? Well it’s been one of those days…

Anyways, I’ve decided to get a little structure to this blog and will begin by kicking off every Friday with a cocktail – “Fun Drink Friday.” And because I’m over the rain and clouds and want a drink that takes me back to 80 degree weather, I decided on a Blueberry Mojito.
