Festive Fashion

December 17, 2013

I always love a reason to get dressed up and this time of the year lends its hand to many a reason…

Rachel Zoe Skirt

I love mixing formal and causal pieces together and I have been living in this cable knit sweater all winter – so why not mix it up with a festive maxi skirt and a fabulous pair of heels?

I’m also convinced a great statement necklace can make an outfit and my mom recently scored this one (which I HAD to borrow) – isn’t it great!?

JCrew Colorful Statement Necklace

I also love the idea of separates for holiday dressing.  While buying a dress for the holiday season is a great option, I love investing in a classic skirt, blouse and sweater that I can mix and match to create different outfits all season long!

Winter Lights

December 10, 2013

So much about fashion right now is the winter white movement… It looks super crisp, clean and refreshing but in a cozy, comfortable way.  Unfortunately the white jean look is not a flattering one for yours truly, so I prefer a winter “light approach”…

I also love the idea of being able to wear slouchy jeans and a cozy sweater, and pulling everything together with a structured coat and stilettos.

Gold Baubles

Gap Sweater

I have been on the prowl for a cozy fisherman’s sweater this season, and have been living in them – one of my favorites is this Gap sweater, that for the price, cannot get ANY better!

I I also am loving J.Crew’s denim department lately, and recently caved and bought my first pair of distressed jeans (my dad’s voice in my head throughout the transaction – “why would you pay for ripped pants?!”).

Thanksgiving Dressing

November 26, 2013

My family loves a good reason to get dressed up and Thanksgiving is no exception…  Despite the fact Thanksgiving is usually spent with our immediate family we still make an effort to get out of our PJs and into something a little more festive.  Here is what I plan on wearing on Thursday!

Joie Sparkle Top Maroon Pants Sweater/Top/Pants/Flats

Here are 3 main Thanksgiving outfit requirements: a. stylish, b.stretch, and c. sparkle.

Banana Republic Flats

I would avoid any fabrics that don’t handle “food that misses your napkin” well – ie satin and silk.

Thanksgiving Outfit

Make sure you are comfortable and can move around easily in case a 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th) pair of hands are needed in the kitchen – I wore this skirt last year and I’m lucky my family didn’t kill me after taking up 25% of any given space.

How to Get Gum Off Your Clothes

October 3, 2013

Bubble Gum

I was leaving an amazing dinner with my sister and hubby, and what does my sister notice on my brand new jeans?! GUM.  The worst thing anyway… or so I thought… One call into my mom later and I was all set… here is what I did (for denim)!

1. Take an ice cube to the gum stain.  You want to freeze it through (if you are working with a smaller garment you can put the whole thing in the freezer if you prefer).

2. Use a butter knife (or the backside of a dinner knife) to scrape the gum off.  It should come right off!

3. Repeat steps 1-2 until the stain is removed.

4. Run item through the wash with the hottest water the material can handle.

Laundry

5. Make sure gum is totally removed from article of clothing before putting in the dryer (unless you air dry your clothing).

It will be good as new!
