I had a sister date day this past weekend, and despite our attempt to relax in a cafe all day and catch up we ended up traipsing all over the city – here were some of the highlights…

Other weekend highlights?  Checking things off my to-do list that have been on there for MONTHS, and an amazing lunch date with J at Pizza Antica.

Don’t Forget Your Green…

March 11, 2014

Outfit Floral

This post is somewhat of a joke, because my plan was to put a cute green outfit together for any St. Patty’s Day celebrations… unfortunately this plan backfired when I realized the only green I have in my closet is one green work dress and some green aviators.  Guess we know what color I should try to venture into more in 2014?

Hopefully this military jacket safely passes for a green?  Anyway, with this spring like weather this past weekend, I was ready to break out some fun floral shorts for brunch with J.   IMG_8105 Florals are fun, but bright pink shorts can be a little overwhelming – here are 3 of my starter tips for incorporating florals into your wardrobe:

  1. Pair with masculine items – i.e. a military jacket, chambray shirt… I’ve even paired with a button up and blazer for a more dressed up look.
  2. Don’t shy from (1-2) fun accessories – I incorporated simple glitter sandals and a fun color bag… an accessory or two adds a fun element, just be cautious of overdoing it, so your outfit doesn’t look costumey.
  3. Have fun! I love wearing things that make me happy… nothing makes you feel better than sitting on cute little pink flowers… so what are you waiting for?!

Good Ol’ Irish Meal

March 10, 2014

IMG_8302

This week is green themed and what better way to kick off a St. Patrick’s Day celebration than Corned Beef and Cabbage!?

IMG_8298 IMG_8110 IMG_8116

Corned Beef and Cabbage

  • 3-4 pounds lean corned beef brisket
  • 1/2 pound fingerlings potatoes
  • 1 small onion, cut into 1 inch wedges
  • 3 celery stalks, cut into 2 inch pieces
  • 5 carrots, peeled & cut into 2 inch pieces
  • 1/2 head of Savoy cabbage, cut into 1 inch wedges
  1. Place corned beef into crock pot.
  2. Sprinkle with spice packet (that comes with corned beef) or 3 Tablespoons pickling spice.
  3. Layer carrots, potatoes, onion, and celery over meat.
  4. Add enough hot water to cover meat by 1 inch (4-5 cups).
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
  6. After 8 hours, add cabbage and cook on high for 45 minutes.
  7. Thinly slice meat against the grain and serve with vegetables.

Note: Whole Foods makes a GREAT brined corned beef (omit Step 2).

*I recommend serving with grainy mustard or a yummy mixture of creme fraiche with some freshly grated horseradish.

Now get your green beer ready and your grocery lists prepped for an amazing St. Patrick’s Day Meal next week!

Blossom Breeze

March 7, 2014

IMG_7194 This past weekend, I had one of the tastiest drinks of my life – the Blossom Breeze.

IMG_4556

Considering one of my most popular posts is my Cucumber Mint Vodka Cocktail, I figured hitting up the bartender for his secret recipe was a necessity… here you go!

IMG_7191

Blossom Breeze

  • 2 oz Square One Cucumber vodka
  • 3/4 oz St. Germain Elderflower liqueur
  • 3/4 oz lime juice
  • 1/4 oz simple syrup
  • Soda Water
  • Edible flower blooms
  1. Shake vodka, Elderflower liqueur, lime juice and simple syrup in an ice filled shaker.
  2. Strain into an ice filled glass and top with soda water.
  3. Stir and garnish with edible flowers (or a slice of cucumber).
