Lillet Cocktail

August 22, 2014

One of the most refreshing concoctions out of the Feezor family bar this summer has been our Lillet Cocktail.  I know it’s been a hot sipper on its own this summer… but when mixed with gin and fruit juice, it really takes it the next level… here is what we did…

Lillet Cocktail serves 2-4

  • 6 ounces Lillet
  • 6 ounces fruit juice (we did passion fruit, but I’ve seen lemon, orange & grapefruit)
  • 3 ounces gin
  1. Combine Lillet, juice and gin in an ice filled shaker and shake until chilled.
  2. We served in ice filled glasses and enjoyed poolside in the heat!

Looks

It’s Time….

August 21, 2014

Prada Miranda Priestly loves Graphic Image Datebooks…obviously.

I don’t know what it is with this year, but for once I’ve followed through with my vow to Christmas shop throughout the year.   It’s been so fun picking up goodies for friends and family during our trips or a killer online sale, and I’m most looking forward to a less stressful holiday season.

What do I think is my biggest factor to my increased organization?! Notebooks!  I’ve always been a fan of a calendar/agenda, but while most of my days don’t need minute by minute scheduling, I am a huge fan of notes, to-do lists and reminders.

I have brought up NUMEROUS times how much of a fan I am of GiGi New York (my sisters, mom and I have a combined dozen pieces between the 4 of us), and when I discovered their sister store, Graphic Image’s gorgeous leather datebooks I had to share them with you all.

They not only come in a variety of leather covers (embossed python, metallic, crocodile, traditional) and colors, but has week and month-at a view layouts, as well as gorgeous cream acid-free pages and gilt edges – does it get any more luxurious than that?!

Journals

Their pocket sized, make them perfect for throwing in your clutch for the day and their desk dairies are large enough to keep track of everything in your life from business meetings to Pilates classes!

The best part? Now through September 8th use code fallfashion for 15% off of any of your Gigi New York or Graphic Images purchase… So do yourself a favor and get yourself organized for 2015… or better yet get one for someone on your Christmas list 🙂  Checking a name off in August feels AMAZING – trust me.

Peach Corn Kale Salad with Basil Honey Vinaigrette

August 20, 2014

If you can tell from the blog lately, it is definitely salad season at my household.  The best part about this concoction is it was made with random stuff in my fridge that I was hoping would all go together – spoiler alert… it did.

Peach Corn Kale Salad with Basil Honey Vinaigrette

Salad:

  • 1 bunch of kale, leaves thinly sliced
  • 3 peaches, sliced
  • 3 ears of fresh corn, kernels cut from corn
  • 1/4 cup cheese (I used Humboldt fog, but goat cheese, feta, etc. would all work well)
  • few sprigs of basil, thinly sliced
  • olive oil

Dressing:

  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp whole grain mustard
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 5 basil leaves, minced
  1. Combine dressing ingredients in a mason jar, secure lid and shake until mixed thoroughly. Season with salt and pepper
  2. Toss kale with splash of olive oil and massage until kale breaks down (volume should reduce by half).
  3. Transfer to a large bowl and add peaches, corn and basil.
  4. Drizzle dressing over salad and toss.
  5. Top with cheese and dig in!

* the great part about this salad is it lasts a day (possibly two) – great for lunch leftovers the next day!

SF Recap

August 18, 2014

SF2

I was lucky enough to hang with my 3 favorite ladies (my mom and 2 sisters) and head to the city for a fun girls trip last weekend.  Here were some of the highlights (via my iPhone):

Thursday night dinner at Bar Agricole – this place has the most amazing vibe… one of our favorite parts? The custom lighting fixtures by Nick Weinstein.  Be sure to try the scallops & peaches starter, fried halibut & squash blossom appetizer, summer soup, gem salad and the petrale sole (if they have it… it was a special).  Their bourbon cocktails were delicious too!

One of my favorite friends is ditching Cali for Boston (boooo) and hosted her going away party at Harper & Rye – which I loved.  Be sure to grab the Frankie & Levi if you are into bourbon…

We started our Friday morning off with a kick butt workout class at my sister’s gym, and then worked our way to the ferry building for our favorites – Blue Bottle hot cocoa, Cowgirl Creamery breakfast sandwiches and Pressed Juicery green juice.

After a morning of getting ready, we headed for a quick bite at Split – I highly recommend the No 7 and No 45 (on gluten free bread!).  They had great salads too…

Friday my sisters and I went to Outside Lands, kicking off the festivities at the Pandora pre-party and then making our way to Golden Gate Park.  I am not a regular in the festival scene (ok I’ve never been to one before), but it was a pretty awesome experience.  Dancing to Chromeo and Kayne with my sisters was definitely a highlight of the year and the amazing food didn’t hurt either 🙂

Saturday I hit up the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market to grab breakfast and do some shopping for the week.  If you are ever in the area be sure to stop by the SOW booth and try the Dame and/or Prescription, and then swing by the Craftsman-Wolves booth for some pastries (I was obsessed with the Creme Fraiche & Muscovado Morning Bun and the Yellow Corn, Stone Fruit & Basil Scone).

We spent the day shopping and then got ready and enjoyed an amazing meal at Hakkasan.  I’ve consistently had great dinners there and highly recommend the Crispy Duck Salad, Spicy Prawns, Sweet & Sour Pork with Pomegranate Seeds and the Exotic Fruit Platter).  Their cocktails are next level too…

Working on my wishlist for restaurants/shops for our next trip… any recommendations are welcomed!
