How to Clean a Clarisonic Brush

June 19, 2014

I always have to have a little laugh when it comes to cleaning cleaning devices – bleaching your washing machine, disinfecting your dishwasher, or boiling your toothbrush… How can things used to clean get so dirty?!

Now that I’ve added another product to my daily beauty regimen, I also have added another product to my cleaning to do list – Le sigh.

So for those of you with a Clarisonic brush here are a few tips on how to keep yours squeaky clean:

1. Once a week unscrew the brush head and remove it from the handle.

2. Put a few drops of Dawn (or antibacterial dish soap) onto a toothbrush and scrub bristles (I also use my fingers and a couple drops of shampoo on the brush head daily for a quick clean).

3. Let the brush head air dry separately from the handle (best overnight).

4. I store mine upright in the shower (the whole device is waterproof, so I use mine as part of my shower routine) but I think you are supposed to store it face down with the cap on (you just want to make sure the bristles are protected.

5. Every 3 months change out the brush head. Personally my skin starts to take a turn for the worst if I push the usage any longer.

I Can’t Live Without…

I wanted to share my favorite beauty products that have stood the test of time and have been in my regimen for years!!! Here we go:

bareMinerals Original Foundation – I think I used liquid foundation once, until my mom turned me onto powder foundation 10 years ago (apparently covering up my hormonal teenage skin with thick make-up wasn’t helping…!?). It goes on flawlessly, has helped my skin overtime and doesn’t come off on my clothes!

bareMinerals Faux Tan – I love a tan more than anyone, but I try to rock a hat and glasses whenever I’m in the sun… thanks to Faux Tan, no one knows!

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product – This stuff lives up to the hype… having long hair I am constantly getting the snarrels (sp?) out of my hair… and this does all the work.  I have never done my hair without using it first! Also it’s great to travel with (it also acts as a thermal protectant and volumizer – just to name  couple… so need to lug other products on vacay with you!)

Tigi S Factor Serious Conditioner – This is one of the items I would take on an island with me! It is the most insane deep conditioner I have ever tried… I travel with it everywhere!!!

OPI Nail Polish – Although I love a great Shellac manicure, I will continue to love and use OPI nail polishes.  I love the color, quality and durability of these polishes!

Dior Show Mascara – I have tried MANY types of mascara since I started wearing make-up, but for some reason I will always come back to Dior Show.  I love that it doesn’t clump, run, smudge and the smell doesn’t hurt either.  Worth the splurge in my opinion!

Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey – I recently started adding a couple other scents to my line-up, but this Jo Malone scent will always be my tried and true, and the one people say “smell’s like me”

What is on your list of favorites!? I’m always look for new things!

Sunscreen Guide

I am by no means a skincare guru, but now that “prepping your skin for your 80’s in your 20’s” is all the rage, I wanted to share some of my favorites.
1. Jan Marini – I use her skincare line regularly, but her face sunscreen is the only kind I can use without breaking out.  It smells yummy and feels great on my skin. Highly recommended!
2. Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Sunscreen – There will be 2 things you will notice on this list: I love things that smell good and sunscreen that doesn’t feel thick and sticky.  This sunscreen feels like its moisturizing you but is super light.  Also the brand just makes me feel like I’m tanning, despite the 60 SPF 🙂
3. Coola – I just discovered this a couple weeks ago at a resort I was staying at.  They had different scents – including original and Plumeria, but I went with Fresh Mango.  It was streaky (in that Zinc type of way), but it was great coverage (the spots I missed, well that was another story) and smelt amazing!
4. Maui Babe – I have moved away from the Maui Babe train for the most part, but when I’ve craving a good tan I slather a little of this on my legs.  It does the trick, leaves your skin feeling super soft and has you smelling like a delicious baked good (if you’re into that?!).
5. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer – This sunscreen will stand the test of time.  It is so amazing it tops the majority of sunscreen recommendation lists.  It’s definitely for good reason.
6.  Burt’s Bees – Don’t forget your lips! In the midst of not forgetting my ears/toes/hands, I overlook chapstick and am regretting it for the following week.
