Don’t Forget Your Green…

March 11, 2014

Outfit Floral

This post is somewhat of a joke, because my plan was to put a cute green outfit together for any St. Patty’s Day celebrations… unfortunately this plan backfired when I realized the only green I have in my closet is one green work dress and some green aviators.  Guess we know what color I should try to venture into more in 2014?

Hopefully this military jacket safely passes for a green?  Anyway, with this spring like weather this past weekend, I was ready to break out some fun floral shorts for brunch with J.   IMG_8105 Florals are fun, but bright pink shorts can be a little overwhelming – here are 3 of my starter tips for incorporating florals into your wardrobe:

  1. Pair with masculine items – i.e. a military jacket, chambray shirt… I’ve even paired with a button up and blazer for a more dressed up look.
  2. Don’t shy from (1-2) fun accessories – I incorporated simple glitter sandals and a fun color bag… an accessory or two adds a fun element, just be cautious of overdoing it, so your outfit doesn’t look costumey.
  3. Have fun! I love wearing things that make me happy… nothing makes you feel better than sitting on cute little pink flowers… so what are you waiting for?!

Make-up Regimen

March 6, 2014

I’m not a big make-up person, and pretty much have been on the same program for 10 years… but if it ain’t broke – don’t fix it… right?

Step 1 NARS Creamy Concealer applied with Beauty Blender Sponge under my eyes and on any blemishes.

Step2 BareMinerals (Medium Beige) applied with a Kabuki brush in a circular motion all over my face.

Step3 BareMinerals Faux Tan Powder applied on forehead and cheekbones.

Step4 If I have a hot date I will take the time to contour, using Laura Mercier products.

Step5 NARS blush (color: Orgasm) is my favorite – I apply with a Sephora blush brush.

Step6

Dior Brow Pencil to define my brows and Brow Gel to keep them in place.

Step7 NARS eyeliner pen (Stila makes a great one too) and followed up with DiorShow mascara.

What is in your makeup regimen line-up?

Kickin’ It

So this may be a slightly controversial post, because today, I will be talking about – wedge sneakers.

When I first heard about the concept I was horrified, and like most fashion trends I come around to them.  Granted I started out with a $20 pair from Target, but I really like these (although my mom and sisters are currently trying to talk me out of them – thoughts?!).

IMG_7854 Zara Jacket (similar), Grandma’s Necklace, Gap Sweater, Joe’s Leather Coated Jeans (on sale!), Banana Republic Clutch, Target Sneakers

I find these to be the most COMFORTABLE shoes, and while I’m not all aboard the “wear your Nike Frees with your brunch outfit movement,” I am working on introducing them to somewhat classic outfits – because it is very ideal to run your weekend errands in these (not gonna lie).

I have a few personal “rules” when it comes to wearing these shoes:

  1. Do not pull your wedge sneakers out from the 90’s – you know… this and this pair? It’s ALL about the HIDDEN wedge.
  2. Dressing is all about proportion (general rule) – but because the sneaker can be a bit bulky on your foot, leggings or skinny jeans are a must.  A large sweatshirt, or longer jacket on top helps to balance out the look.
  3. Use this look for errand running/sporting events.  Do not rock wedge sneakers at work, dinners out (unless you are ordering your meal from a counter) or anywhere you don’t want to deal with people commenting on said sneakers (it’s going to happen).

IMG_7865 Despite the rules and regulations, I have had some of the most productive days in these shoes.  You feel bada**, and it is the joy of wearing heels (good posture, certain body parts look particularly nice, etc.) but with the comfort of a sneaker – what isn’t to like!?
